Today as he became the first person in the world to successfully backflip a car.
After years of preparing for this seemingly impossible feat, Guerlain Chicherit fired his MINI Countryman into orbit, flipped a perfect 360 and stomped all four wheels onto the beast of a 8 metre-high snow ramp in a private attempt this morning.
Not content with jumping just once, he then repeated the stunt in front of thousands of fans in the French ski resort earlier this evening.
Emerging from his machine after the landing, Chicherit was mobbed by his team and fans surrounding the car.
“Before the jump it was crazy,” Chicherit said. “I was alone in the car before the start and I just had to do it, everything was ready.”
“I had to arrive at 60 kilometres per hour and be full throttle in the kicker to get the right rotation. In the jump, I knew the balance of the car was good and it took me maybe twenty seconds to realise I had landed on my wheels!”
From the initial concept, through to creating the outrageous bespoke Reiger suspension and testing the car with numerous jumps onto a huge BigAirBag, Chicherit can confidently take the crown as the most extreme rally driver out there.
“When you attempt something nobody has ever achieved before, the stress is really high but the only way is to just try it,” the Frenchman said confidently. “It wasn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever done but for sure it’s in the top three. It was sick – I just want to do it again!”

Dopo anni di preparazione per questa impresa apparentemente impossibile, Chicherit ha sparato la sua MINI Countryman in orbita, compiendo un 360 perfetto ed atterrando con tutte le 4 ruote su una enorme rampa alta 8 metri in un tentativo privato questa mattina.
Non contenti di eseguire il salto una volta sola ha replicato la manovra davanti a migliaia di fans nello Ski resort francese all’inizio della sera.
Uscendo dalla sua vettura al termine dell’atterraggio, Chicherit è stato letteralmente assalito per festeggiare dal suo team e dai tantissimi fans accorsi per l’evento che hanno circondato l’auto inneggiando cori.
“Prima del salto è stato pazzesco”, afferma Chicherit. “Ero solo nell’auto prima della partenza sapevo cosa dovevo fare, tutto era pronto e sistemato alla perfezione”.
“Dovevo raggiungere la velocità di 60 km/h ed uscire a tutto gas dal kicker per avere la corretta rotazione. Durante il salto sapevo che il bilanciamento dell’auto era buono e mi ci sono voluti forse venti secondi per realizzare che ero atterrato sulle ruote!”
Dal concetto iniziale fino alla creazione di sospensioni speciali su misura Reiger e durante i test della vettura con numeri salti su un enorme BigAirBag, Chicherit può prendersi la corona come il pilota dai rally più estremo là fuori.
“Quando tenti di provare qualcosa che nessuno ma hai raggiunto prima, lo stress è veramente alto, ma l’unico modo è quello di provarci” , dice fiduciosamente il pilota francese. “Non è stata la cosa più folle che abbia mai fatto ma è sicuramente tra le prime 3. E’ stato pazzesco! E voglio farlo di nuovo! ”
